Sophia is a member of the Cowichan Tribes where she was born, raised, and still resides. Previously, she worked as the Communications Coordinator at Quw'utsun Syuw'entst Lelum Cowichan House of Learning for her band's organization. In that role, she supported the department’s strategic, operational, and policy planning. In the summer of 2022, Sophia joined Sa̱nala (formerly Alderhill) as a student intern. Later, in the Spring of 2023, she supported the company as a subcontractor, before moving into her current role as Planning Assistant. She has worked on various projects, including Indigenous engagement for the B.C. Climate Action Secretariat, facilitation support for the Wei Wai Kum First Nation annual general meeting, the Island Health Indigenous Health annual portfolio meeting and employee engagement series, and support for the Cumulative Effects Engagements. Sophia holds a Master of Community and Regional Planning with a concentration in Indigenous Community Planning from the University of British Columbia, a B.A. in Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Mustimuxw (First Nations) Studies, and a Professional Certificate in Indigenous Land Management from Vancouver Island University
